You begin in Tokyo, Japan’s modern capital and explore its most iconic sites such as Meiji Shrine, Sensoji Temple and the palace East Garden before moving northward to Yudanaka to see the internationally renowned snow monkeys frolic in geothermal hot springs. Next is a visit to the picturesque castle town Matsumoto, its famous medieval black castle earned the moniker ‘Crow Castle’. This is followed by the opportunity to recreate the march that merchants and samurai took as they moved from the royal capital Kyoto to Edo at Kiso Valley’s famous Nakasendo Trail. In your visit to Takayama you step through the passage of time as you explore some of Japan’s most beautifully preserved Edo Period streets at Takayama’s Old Town. A visit to Shirakawa-go will unveil a scenic rural town whose distinct thatched-roof cottages earnt UNESCO world heritage status. Following Takayama you will visit Kanazawa and explore its beautiful cityscape including its famous garden Kenroku-en.
You will then arrive at Kyoto, Japan’s cultural and artistic centre, in which you can explore this storied city and enjoy the company of an apprentice geisha. Your Kyoto stay is followed by a contemplative visit to Japan’s Mount Koya where you can immerse yourself in Japan’s spirituality with an overnight stay at a temple lodging. Then onwards to the romantic canal city Kurashiki where you can stroll by winding river networks and through Koraku-en Garden. Further south you will go to Hiroshima and Miyajima to visit the popular world heritage sites. Finally, you will visit Japan’s largest southern island Kyushu in a visit to the beautiful port-city Nagasaki. At Nagasaki you can learn about the history of European visitors. This signature tour then takes you to Hakone where you can see Mt. Fuji before going back to Tokyo.

Depart London on a direct flight to Tokyo.
