Begin your tour in the bustling city of Tokyo, then head to Hakone by train using the Hakone Free Pass provided, where you can get a glimpse of Mount Fuji. After an overnight stay here, start using your 7-Day Japan Rail Pass and travel by train to Takayama, known as ‘Little Kyoto’ where old parts of the town are preserved. A return bus ticket is included for a day trip to Shirakawgo, a World Heritage site where you can see 250 year-old traditional thatched roofed farmhouses.
Next stop will be Kyoto which was Japan’s capital for over 1,000 years. Explore the countless shrines, temples and other historical sites before visiting the spiritual home of Japanese Buddhism: Mount Koya. Experience a stay in a traditional temple lodging (‘Shukubo’) and enjoy shojin-ryori whilst being fully-immersed in the fascinating history of Mount Koya and its temples that date back as far as 805 A.D. The tour ends in the city of Osaka to enjoy some last-minute shopping and Japanese gourmet.
