Japan’s traditions continue to be passed from one generation to the next. Amongst the many, architecture, religion and culture are just some areas of Japanese life that are able to be experienced by visitors from overseas.
This tour encompasses a variety of different traditions that will enable you to see Japan in a different light. Visit Takayama, the home of Japanese craftsmanship, and Shirakawa-go, a traditional Japanese village. Head to Kanazawa to see one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan and the local samurai quarter before travelling to Kyoto, the cultural heart of Japan. In Kyoto you can visit Arashiyama, a district of scenic beauty and enjoy lunch on a Yakatabune (traditional Japanese river boat).

Day 2 | Tokyo Upon arrival at Tokyo you will be met by an English speaking assistant who will help you board a reserved taxi to your hotel. Stay for 4 nights. |
Day 3 | Tokyo Morning sightseeing tour of Tokyo by coach, including Meiji Jingu Shrine, Imperial Palace East Garden (when open) or Imperial Palace Plaza (an alternative to Imperial Palace East Garden when closed) and Sensoji Temple. Afternoon free. |
Day 4 | Tokyo – Nikko – Tokyo (Lunch) Full-day guided sightseeing tour of Nikko by coach, including Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the spectacular Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls. |
Day 5 | Tokyo Free to explore Tokyo or you may take an optional tour. |
Day 6 | Mount Fuji & Hakone (Lunch) Full-day guided sightseeing tour of Hakone by coach, including Mount Fuji 5th station, Lake Ashi Cruise, Mt. Komagatake Ropeway and Hakone-en Park. Stay overnight. |
Day 7 | Takayama Transfer to Odawara Station, and travel by bullet and express train to Takayama. In the afternoon, visit Yatai Kaikan Hall, Kusakabe Folkcraft Museum and Kami Sannomachi Town. Stay overnight. |
Day 8 | Takayama – Shirakawago – Kanazawa (Lunch) Full-day guided sightseeing tour of Shirakawago including Takayama Morning Market, Shirakawago observatory and Wada residence. Stay overnight. |
Day 9 | Kanazawa – Kyoto Morning guided sightseeing tour of Kanazawa including Nagamachi Samurai District, Former Samurai Residence, Kenrokuen Garden; one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan and Higashi-chaya District. Transfer by express train to Kyoto. Stay for 4 nights. |
Day 10 | Kyoto – Nara – Kyoto (Lunch) Full-day guided sightseeing tour of Kyoto and Nara, including Nijo Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, Kyoto Imperial Palace (when open) or Kitano Tenmangu Shrine (an alternative to Kyoto Imperial Palace when closed) , Todaiji Temple; famous for its Great Buddha, Nara Park and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. |
Day 11 | Kyoto Free to explore Kyoto or you may take an optional tour. |
Day 12 | Kyoto:Sagano Bamboo Grove and Arashiyama (Lunch) Walking tour through scenic Arashiyama and Sagano Bamboo Grove and enjoy lunch on Yakatabune, a traditional Japanese river boat. |
Day 13 | U.K. Transfer to Airport and take flights back to U.K. |
