Head to Shiretoko, UNESCO Natural Heritage site and a very remote region, about as far away from civilisation as you’ll get in Japan. The five lakes of Shiretoko amongst the many hiking trails and abundant nature and wildlife make for some spectacular scenery.
Kawayu Onsen is a quiet Hot Spring town, set at the edge of Akan National Park. Sandwiched between Lake Kussharo with its volcanically warm sand and Japan’s most beautiful lake, Lake Mashu, famous for its clear blue water.
Your journey of Eastern Hokkaido ends with stay in the port town of Kushiro, the other side of Akan National Park where you can witness some incredible wildlife, nature and scenery. Don’t forget to try some of the freshest fish you will ever have!

Upon arrival, take a bus to JR Abashiri station then train to Shiretoko-Shari. Transfer to Utoro Onsen by bus.
